ENGR 499 Reflection

Overall, I’d say that I learned quite alot about teamwork, limitations, and time management as a result of my experience in ENGR 499. The design process was alot more planning that I realized (and hoped) but I can mostly see how that level of planning is valuable.

I can see how it is important to be able to manage your priorities effectively as an engineer. I think that prioritization of tasks and divison of work were probably the most valuable things that I learned and I’m sure that they are some of the most important parts of being an engineer.

Throughout this course, there were some difficulties that were encountered, and I’d say that my group managed them quite well and for that I am grateful. I have heard horror stories from other capstone groups that were not quite so functional that have made me realize that ego plays a huge part in the failings of many projects within school. Because of this project, I have a much better understanding of what it takes to achieve an outcome in the real world.

My time at UBC Okanagan has taught me that I can be incredibly detail oriented, and that I take to managing much more than I had originally thought. When its needed, I can solve problems quite quickly and accurately and have the drive to iterate and revise until the work is as good as it should be. I think my biggest struggle with this whole journey has been the university learning format.
